Frequently Asked Questions

Getting started

My fees are £55 per hour (session). Each session lasts 50 minutes, but it is usually referred to as an hour. Where possible, I offer a reduced rate for a small number of clients who would not otherwise be able to afford therapy. If you need to explore this option, please contact me to discuss it.

Yes, I offer a free 30-minute introductory session. This can be face-to-face, via video call, or by telephone.

This is difficult to predict as it depends on your goals, how you want to work, and the level of difficulty you’re experiencing. Everyone comes to therapy with a different story, different needs and different hopes for change, so there isn’t a set number of sessions that applies to everyone. We can talk about this and regularly review how you feel it is going.

About my approach

A neuro-affirming approach means recognising that people think, communicate, learn and experience the world in different ways. Rather than seeing neurodivergence as something to fix, I aim to understand each person’s experiences, needs and strengths. My work is informed by neurodivergent-led research and lived experience perspectives

Yes and No. My therapeutic work is usually only with individuals. I don’t currently offer couples therapy or family (systemic) therapy. Heart-to-Heart sessions involve both parent and child, but this programme is not classified as counselling.

Exceptions include:

  • A client may invite thei parent to a session to share progress or request support with something.
  • A child/young person may request their support person (e.g parent) temporarily stays with them until they can manage sessions alone.
  • Heart-to-Heart sessions can be explored as a supportive activity within counselling, if appropriate, but client confidentiality remains paramount.

Therapy sessions can be arranged face-to-face, by telephone, or online. You can choose what suits you. However, some work, such as practicing certain physical postures or relaxation techniques, is easier to do face-to-face. The Heart-to-Heart program includes active games, story massage, and observation skills, so these sessions need to be in-person.

Working with children and young people

Whilst I understand that it can be difficult for parents, confidentiality is essential in counselling. I only share information with you that your child/young person requests or agrees to. I value working alongside parents/carers, while also protecting your young person’s confidentiality. Building trust is essential for therapy to be effective. Evidence shows that the most helpful thing a parent/guardian can do, is to offer their full support for counselling and show an interest if the young person wishes to discuss things. Please allow your child to decide whether they wish to talk to you about their session. Safeguarding is of the utmost importance to me. If I believe that there is a risk of significant harm, I may need to seek help from other agencies and, if appropriate, you will be informed of this.
